I’d rather just go to Scouts TBH, learn to make fires, climb trees, survive in the wild and respect nature. I never felt any strong Christian ethics in Scouts, not in my experience anyway…

When I was young, my Nan sent us to this kids club in the easter holidays called ‘Body-Builders’. She didn’t know but it was a Christian kids club, we were split into groups that had to make a film of a bible story. Ours was called ‘Josephine and the technicolour rollerskates’… Everyone had skates except me, though. Twice a day we had to sing the Body-Builders song which went:

Body Builders,
Body Builders,
Getting into shape to follow Jesus.
Body Builders,
Body Builders,
Getting into shape to follow Him.

There were more lyrics but that was the chorus. A few years later, I met a girl at school who went to one of these holiday clubs with the same song, but hers was in Spain!

Anyway, my point is, at the time I didn’t find it strange, I went to a Christian school too, you’re sort of being indoctrinated, it never feels like you are because they treat it like it’s so normal and you don’t know any different.  This non-religious summer camp sounds great, I mean, for a start, less hymns has got to be a good thing!

I mean I’m sure the child doesn’t care one way or the other, but it’d be nice for a parent to know their children aren’t being fed a load of crap by people who are looking after them.
