Is he sixteen? Somewhere in the fourteen to twenty-two age bracket? I think that would explain some stuff. Not that all people that age (my age/our age) are jerks, but I think it’s common to go through some kind of extremist phases…I know what you mean, and agree, but he’s a 2008 college graduate (so my guess is an immature 26 y/o). and he has plugs and a beard and all the other hallmarks of an asshole (sorry is that judgmental? I mean, there’s a correlation - well, in the case of men - between obsession with subcultural style and jerkitude, in my experience).
