Butts.
Um… excuse me?
That chick’s ass is not really that big at all.
I mean, yay female body empowerment and all
And don’t give me all the normal shit.
I’m not talking fat-acceptance big.
Oh no no no.
I’m talking socially-acceptable-weight-to-be-in-an-ad chicks with big asses big.
That is “I train a lot” ass. Not big ass.
Go girl yeah. You be proud of your perfectly toned could crush a can ass, girl.
It is gorgeous.
Sing it from the goddamned rafters.
Just don’t tell me it’s all that big.
Whatever. I shouldn’t tackle this while drunk.
Get funky with your ass, girl.
Make cars crash with that ass.
Make everyone fucking jealous with that ass.
Get yourself free drinks with that ass.
[Edit: Why the fuck does an ass have to be compared to a dog? No woman wrote this ad. If she did, it would be, “It is my goddamn howitzer who blasts other chicks away from that cute sweater during a trunk sale.” Straight menz just don’t understand.]
It’s a shame this advert doesn’t focus on those fucking bad-ass thighs.
NO.arrgh
This advert (and others in the series) is not well-meaning, it does not for all intents and purposes progressively promote body acceptance. I very much doubt the model pictured wrote the copy. (That’s what it is called in the biz, and that’s all it is.) That is not her speaking, that is a bit of text that has been very carefully and cynically written as part of a re-branding to fall in line with the current trend of ‘featuring a real woman’.
Nike don’t give a shit about women, they just want their money. This is appropriating and undermining women’s fight for body acceptance. They’ve taken our resistance and sold it back to us as an integral part of their product. Sports wear. Made in a sweatshop. By women that aren’t and could never be as ‘liberated’ as this character’s butt.
This makes me cringe, just thinking about those smug advertisers appropriating women’s bodies and putting words in their mouths.
Is it so easy to fool people? With just a bit of text? Can they make us forget everything Naomi Klein and the adbusters have taught us about Nike?
