Calling all artists, creative folk and craftivists!
Last year the National Gallery hosted an evening reception for weapons dealers, celebrating the first day of business at DSEi, the world’s largest arms fair.
Help get the arms dealers out of the Gallery.
Italian arms company, Finmeccanica sponsors the gallery: for £30,000 it buys the opportunity to use the gallery’s rooms to impress its clients and woo decision-makers. Against such a lavish backdrop it’s probably easy to forget that their business is death and destruction.
Stop the Arms Fair is launching a campaign to end the National Gallery’s links with Finmeccanica. There is loads of potential for artivism: using art to communicate and win the campaign. Get involved and help plan a creative and engaging launch action and sketch out future plans.
Invite friends and come along yourself (try to let us know by emailing info@stopthearmsfair.org.u k if you’re coming so we get an idea of numbers).
Ink Sketch - Lana Del Rey
I woke up this morning really wanting to draw something. I was still in a silly dreamy mood and spent around 45 minutes on this inky sketch of Lana Del Rey, (I must find the source of the wonderful photograph I used for reference), before I ran to work and got there in the nick of time. I’m enjoying how people are finding it so difficult to define her.
This is amazing. Holy Shit.
Sketchbook stuff
Some spreads from a small A5 sketchbook I finished working in a while ago. Oh yeah, some where drawn at the Isle of Wight.
OMG that top pic is of me you guys (bottom right is my sister).
Library Display: Chinese New Year, Year of the Dragon
I’ve been doing displays at the library I work at ever since they realised I did illustration work. However, I’ve never really thought about, or had the time to record and photograph them, Its just too busy an environment. I managed to get some time to sneak off the counter and create a display to mark the Chinese New Year. After taking the advice of a fellow colleague, I took my camera along today to get a few quick snaps before it all disappears and transforms into something else. I’ve already had to heal the poor dragons forelimb after finding it torn off. No doubt, the workings of a jubilant 2 year old. It’s ephemeral art really and I’ve never felt too precious about them, but I always find them sooo enjoyable to create even if it means getting distracted by small library patrons asking for help finding Rainbow Magic and Horrid Henry Books.
It’s amazing! You’re a credit to the library!
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs -
Wahey! Received my copy of Snow White from the publisher. So that’s the two Classic Tales commissions done. They’re really hard to find on the net. Well they’re not even up on the publisher site yet, and they’re actually for schools. Bleh.
Yaay! Bring it round later!
“It’s a lie. It’s a bunch of sad strangers photographed beautifully, and… all the glittering assholes who appreciate art say it’s beautiful ‘cause that’s what they wanna see. But the people in the photos are sad, and alone… But the pictures make the world seem beautiful, so… the exhibition is reassuring which makes it a lie, and everyone loves a big fat lie.” - Alice
watching this tonight, I really need it
SHITTEST FILM OF ALL TIME. OF ALL TIME.
